About Us

Rito Seco Records is an independent label rooted in the musical traditions of the American interior — the high country, the open basin, the back-road towns where old songs still carry weight.

Founded in San Luis, Colorado, Rito Seco takes its name from the dry creek beds of the inland West: channels that run quiet between seasons but have shaped the land for centuries. That tension — between stillness and flow, between what endures and what moves through — is at the heart of the music we make and release.

We work with artists who write from a place. Whose songs are specific enough to be true and spacious enough to travel. Who find in Appalachian and Americana traditions a living grammar.

Rito Seco Records is home to Kat’s Sundog, the Asheville-based ensemble whose debut album Snakeweed Season draws on poetry, landscape, and the long American distance between where you’re from and where you’re going.

Mountain Songs For Open Country. Where America Meets Americana.

There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do.
